Abstract
Leadership plays an integral role in shaping and developing culture. Building an organizational culture that promotes coaching needs buy-in and modeling from leaders within the organization. Leadership is a skillset that can be learned just like math, science, or language. However, leadership is a grossly misunderstood skillset. Being in a particular role does not make you a good leader. Learning the basics of leadership, bases of power, leadership styles, context, ethics, and values is fundamental to understanding what it means to be a good leader. Chasing a false narrative of one perfect leadership style could lead to disastrous consequences. It is prudent for organizations to implement leadership development plans to avoid such disasters. As such, organizations should develop leaders who understand the importance of and implement coaching within their organizations. A few things to remember in developing leadership is transparency, providing opportunities for everyone, and allowing individuals to practice their skill.
