Abstract

To accurately measure short-lived isotopes (T1/2<10 seconds), a novel pneumatic system has been built and is being characterized at the Pennsylvania State Breazeale Reactor (PSBR). The pneumatic system allows for the use of cyclic neutron activation analysis (CNAA) by cycling samples between two high-purity germanium (HPGe) detectors and the PSBR core. The HPGe detectors were characterized and calibrated with a mixed gamma standard and a cyclic target, which is irradiated by a unique fast-neutron spectrum near the PSBR core.
