Abstract
A novel 2-D adaptive filter, based on the 1-D joint process estimator (JPE), is developed. The novel structure, called the 2-D JPE, is composed of a 2-D lattice structure followed by a generalized lower tap-weight arrangement. The proposed 2-D JPE is shown to have superior convergence rate performance over the direct-form 2-D adaptive filter when the parameters of the 2-D lattice are fixed at their optimal values. One observed drawback of the fully adaptive 2-D JPE is that it exhibits a rather high convergence floor.
