N2 - New types of pressure sensitive luminescent coatings have been developed. These coatings sense changes in pressure directly, rather than oxygen as did previous pressure sensitive paints. Therefore, these coatings can operate in virtually any test environment, e.g. water, nitrogen or air. Two distinct wavelengths of light are emitted from these coatings allowing "ratiometric" data reduction that eliminates the need for "wind-off" or reference data saving time and money. Initial calibration results and results from the first test of these coatings at Pennsylvania State University/Applied Research Laboratory's Twelve-Inch Water Tunnel are presented in this paper.
