Abstract
The requirements for an active acoustic impedance load for thermoacoustic refrigerators are somewhat unique. Because the signals are sinusoidal in nature, one only need worry about measurement and control at one frequency - broad band control is not required. Many thermoacoustic refrigerators use gas mixtures other than air and have small duct sizes so the standard boundary layer approximations may no longer hold. General expressions for the wave number and specific characteristic impedance have been developed. The boundary layer approximations, for use where applicable, are also presented. A general overview of the active impedance control system was discussed.
