Abstract

New compositions for developing chemically bonded ceramics have been sought in the system CaOSiO2P2O5H2O. A parallel objective was to find optimum compositions that may provide good cementitous properties, using sol-gel derived powders as starting materials. Additional investigations involved systematic determination of the mechanical properties of the hydrated samples and detailed characterization for microstructure, surface area and phase composition of powder and products. Flexural strengths in the range of 40 to 70 MPa were found.
