Abstract

Guided wave inspection techniques for adhesively bonded structures will be discussed; specifically emphasizing their application to aging aircraft structures. First, an explanation of the development of ultrasonic methods from early 'traditional' methods to current guided wave techniques will be presented. Next basic theory and mode selection concepts are related to the particular inspection problems. A hand-held guided wave probe for aging aircraft structures is then described. Finally, protocols for inspecting actual aircraft structures are presented.
