N2 - The concept of resilience for the transportation infrastructure is relatively new, which means that the current literature provides little information and few recommendations for achieving or improving the resilience of roadway network. The goal of this study is to develop a list of strategies to enhance the resilience of the transportation infrastructure and to provide recommendations for implementing them. To this end, a comprehensive review of the existing literature was performed, and a list of potential factors that have impact over transportation infrastructure was prepared. Based on the outcome of the literature review, a survey was developed and distributed to experts in the field of transportation infrastructure. Ninety-two survey responses were collected and analyzed, and based on the analysis, resilience enhancement strategies for transportation infrastructure were developed. The findings of this paper demonstrate that maintaining an optimum number of nodes in the network to ensure the easy and efficient rerouting of traffic from a damaged link or node enhances resilience significantly. Incorporating optional routes at the beginning of a new project or for a roadway expansion will also eventually increase the resilience of the network. This study will help practitioners in selecting and adopting the appropriate strategies that enhance the resiliency of the transportation infrastructure.
