Abstract
Diabetic emergencies can be life threatening and need to be recognized rapidly. Type 1 and type 2 diabetes are discussed. Care of unresponsive patients with diabetes, as well as awake hypoglycemic patients, is reviewed. Also, hyperglycemic emergencies including diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) and nonketotic hyperosmolar coma (NKHC) are contrasted.
