Abstract
An antidiscriminatory education contributes to the creation of a society that respect diversity and plurality, committed to democratic values. Hence, schools face the impending task of meeting this educational ideal through projects, processes, and activities on a daily basis. In doing so, they are showing their commitment to human rights and social justice, having human dignity, culturally sustaining praxis, and equity as key components of the educational project. Going from an ideal to the attainment of it requires not only creating spaces for each member to be equally important but also having the attitude, disposition, and openness of educators showing that antidiscriminatory education is actually possible. This chapter accounts for the lived experiences and lessons learned for over 20 years at Creare, a school in Guadalajara, Mexico. The authors, principal, and teacher at the school describe here the efforts to build a dialogical, inclusive, and equitable community.
