Abstract

The dielectric and piezoelectric properties of high Curie temperature 0.6Pb(Yb1/2Nb1/2)O3-0.4PbTiO3 (PYNT40) single crystals as a function of temperature are reported. The Curie temperature of PYNT40 single crystals was about 270°C and the rhombohedral to tetragonal phase transition temperature was ∼168°C. The piezoelectric and electromechanical coupling coefficients at room temperature were d33∼1200pC/N, k33∼88%, d31∼ -500 pC/N, k31∼ -76% and d15∼1700pC/N, k15∼88%, respectively. The coupling coefficients remained nearly constant until ∼160°C, indicating improved temperature stability compared to Pb(Zn1/3Nb2/3)O3-PbTiO3 and Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O3-PbTiO3 single crystals.
