Abstract
In this article, we report the dielectric and piezoelectric properties of Mn modified 0.92Pb(Zn 1/3Nb 2/3)O 3-0.08PbTiO 3 (PZNT) single crystals. The crystals were grown by the modified-flux method. Mn substitution resulted in enhanced mechanical quality factor, Q m, and a moderate increment in the rhombohedral to tetragonal phase transition temperature with increasing Mn composition. Investigation of the role of Mn in PZNT was performed on the basis of dielectric, piezoelectric and polarization versus electric hysteresis measurements. It was found that the improved Q m is obtained because of the induction of the "hard" characteristics into the PZNT single crystal. High Q m piezocrystals are being developed for high power applications.
