Abstract

The full matrix material constants for melilite-type SrGdGa3O7 crystals were determined using resonance method, with piezoelectric coefficient d14 and coupling factor k14 being on the order of 14.6 pC/N and 23.8%, respectively. The electrical resistivity at 600 °C was measured and found to be on the order of 1.0×106 and 1.7×107 Ohm·cm along physical X- and Z- directions. The dielectric, elastic and piezoelectric constants were studied over a wide temperature range, from 25 to 600 °C, with the piezoelectric variation less than 20%, demonstrating SrGdGa3O7 crystals a potential material for high temperature piezoelectric sensors.
