Abstract
A sculptured thin film (STF)-based filter which inverts the handedness of incident right circularly-polarized (RCP) light on transmission is presented. The filter, however, does not transmit incident left circularly-polarized (LCP) light. The theoretical framework of the polarization-discriminatory handedness inverter is sketched out to solve the associated boundary value problem. Numerical results are presented to validate the expected capabilities of the proposed two-layer device, and suggestions for performance enhancement are discussed with several production-related issues.
