Abstract
The dietetic community must actively participate in the implementation of the 2005 Dietary Guidelines for both individuals and populations. By virtue of our training and practice experience, we are well positioned to assume a leading role in improving the health of Americans. Moreover, the dietetic community should make use of the research opportunities identified in the Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee report. This participation will help to build the evidence base for future dietary recommendations. In so doing, RDs will make contributions to all aspects inherent to evolving new Dietary Guidelines. This will be important to sustaining the reputation and participation of ADA as a key participant in the development of future Dietary Guidelines.
