Abstract

Anomalous strain changes are associated with the electric field induced phase transition from an antiferroelectric phase to a ferroelectric one. PZT family ceramics Pb0.99Nb0.02[(Zr0.6Sn0.4)1_yTiu]0.98O3 are investigated here, revealing digitalized strains or a shape memory effect. These phenomena are explainable in terms of a dielectric phase diagram. Applications are proposed for generating swing motion with a constant amplitude or mechanical clamping at the position with a narrow space.
