Abstract

This paper shows a construction of a shape grammar integrating data gain from Digital Fabrication (DF) and Rapid Prototyping (RP). The goal of this experiment is to see the impact it may have in the process of both evaluating and validating the grammar that uses Leon Battista Alberti De Re Aedificatoria treatise rules. A part of the Column System shape grammar from Alberti's treatise will be used as an analysis object. A generation of a column systematization of a specific building and a capital from this column will be the subject of this paper. This grammar was constructed directly from the treatise rules. The grammar generates detailed elements and it has the capacity to optimize such elements in an accurate and better informed way. Its derivations have produced buildings elements that were built as artifacts. The goal of this experiment is to better understand the methodology used and to improve the Column systematization shape grammar.
