Abstract
In spite of many rapid advances during the last few years in the design and realization of digital filters, very little is known about how to achieve fault tolerance in digital filters. A nonconventional type of filter architecture based on residue number coding has inherent properties that can be used for error detection and correction. This study presents the fundamental concepts for fault tolerant RNS digital filters and presents results of computer simulations for systems that can perform with gradual degradation in the presence of multiple hardware failures.
