Diseases of the Macula

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingChapter

Abstract

Diseases of the macula are encountered commonly in general and subspecialty eye practices. Many conditions—regardless of their classification as macular or vascular or inherited or inflammatory—have macular manifestations. To some extent, our categorization of certain conditions as “macular” vs. others as “vascular” or “inherited” is a bit arbitrary based on traditional approaches to disease classification. Is pattern dystrophy a macular disease or is it an inherited retinal disease? Yes.
