Abstract

The disinfection of water is necessary for industrial applications to ensure a safe and pure water. One such effective solution is the ultraviolet (UV) light disinfection as it disactivate pathogenic microorganisms and does not have harmful products. The treatment has two different modes as continuous and pulsed. The important aspects of a pulsed UV system are discussed. These are the cleaning of the flow-through pulsed UV system, its light treatment, its turbidity, radiant energy and temperature measurement. Results shows that pulsed UV light treatment proved to be very effective in disinfecting water as well as inactivating B. subtilis. Furthermore, a comparison with the continuous UV-light treatment can help better understand the effectiveness of the pulsed UV-light treatment.
