Abstract

Aqueous stability diagrams (25°C) are presented for the systems M-H2O and M-Oxalate-H2O where M=Sm, Nd, Co, and Fe. With the aid of these diagrams (i.e., Eh-pH and log[Metal]-log[Oxalate]), the solution-chemical constraints on metal dissolution and precipitation are identified. By comparing the corresponding stability diagrams, conceptual flowsheets are developed for metal recovery from Sm-Co and Nd-Fe-B magnet scrap.
