Abstract

The dissolution behavior of the high-T//c superconducting compound in a number of common solvents was studied to identify those that may be attractive for ceramic processing. Coarse powders of the material were exposed to each solvent for 220 h, and both the supernatant and the remaining solid phase were characterized. It was found that for most of the organic solvents, the extent of dissolution was quite low, implying that the superconductor should not be adversely affected by short exposures to benzene, toluene, acetone, ethanol, methanol, isopropanol, or dimethyl formamide.
