Abstract

Combined heating and radiometric sensing of body tissues is attractive in certain medical applications. Presented for the first time is a novel dual-mode planar applicator, consisting of two concentric annular slots, intended for use in a microwave blood perfusion measurement system. Measurement results are presented to characterise the S-parameters and heating profile of the applicator at the frequencies of 0.9GHz for heating and 1-2GHz for radiometric sensing.
