Abstract

Hot-rolled dual phase microstructures have been produced in various micro-alloyed low carbon, silicon-manganese steels. The strength and formability of these microstructures were characterized using shear punch, compression and Hopkinson pressure bar tests. Results indicate that these microstructures have good potential for manufacturing high strength fasteners without the need for conventional heat treatment stages (i.e., spheroidizing, austenitizing and quenching and tempering).
