Abstract

Intercritical annealing was used to obtain microstructures consisting of mostly ferrite particles to give good strength and formability combinations for cold heading process. Similar dual phase microstrcutures were produced in the hot roll condition. Formability characteristics were defined using two parameters which were the stress at 10 percent strain and linear hardening. Shear punch testing, static compression testing, and high strain rate testing were used to study the strength and formability characteristics.
