Abstract

In this paper, the authors examine the effect of interstage buffer and limited repair capabilities in a transfer line with two machines and two robots, which are used for material handling. The authors analyze various dynamic repair policies, which depend on the level of interstage buffer and suggest optimum policies which maximize the output of the line or minimize the average inventory of semi-finished workpieces. We also develop a test procedure to analyze the stochastic characteristics of the repeatability of a robot.
