Abstract
The experiments were carried out using Drosophila melanogaster under a discrete nonoverlapping generation regime and under an overlapping generation scheme. The gene frequency difference among males and females is observed to decay at a rate similar to that predicted by elementary population genetic theory. The period of the oscillations of female frequencies is estimated to be 25 days for the overlapping generation experiments. The time-dependent behavior of the coefficient of linkage disequilibrium differs radically between nonoverlapping and overlapping generation regimes. This difference is a consequence of the demographic structure of the population. Transition equations for the two-locus dynamic are presented for nonoverlapping and overlapping generation regimes. Information on the demographic structure of the populations can be extracted from the two-locus dynamic. -from Authors
