Abstract
The standing wave formation in patch and capacitor structures with different aspect ratios and feeding configurations was analyzed using finite difference time domain simulations. A rectangular metal patch attached to a microstrip feedline placed above the dielectric substrate and backed by the ground plane was modeled for the purpose. The aspect ratio of the patch and the symmetry of the feed defined the resonance modes and order of their appearance with increasing frequency. The center-fed square capacitor was found to be effective in high frequency applications.
