N2 - Engineered components made of superalloys routinely undergo heat treatment procedures to tailor their microstructures and properties. In this study, the effect of heat treatment on the microstructures of polycrystalline nickel-base superalloy MAR-M247 was investigated. Samples of MAR-M247 were fabricated using scanning laser epitaxy (SLE), a powder bed fusion-based additive manufacturing process exclusively developed to repair and manufacture structures of nickel-base superalloys. Microstructural characterizations of the as-deposited and the heat treated MAR-M247 samples were performed using optical microscopy (OM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The results showed that the microstructure became homogeneous with reductions in the eutectic volume fraction for the heat-treated samples. The heat-treated samples were also found to be free from cracking.
