N2 - The relative performances of different compact fluorescent (CF) systems were evaluated throughout a wide range of ambient temperatures applicable to both indoor and outdoor operation in North America. One test condition involved frost on all exposed surfaces. Considerable differences in stabilization times and starting times were observed, especially at the coldest temperatures. Recommendations were provided for purchasers, manufacturers, distributors, and standards bodies to help ensure the successful application of CF products.
