Abstract

The effect of uremic toxins on red blood cell (RBC) permeability to uric acid and creatinine was examined. Limited studies were performed using chromatographically-purified plasma ultrafiltrate fractions obtained from hemodialysis patients. The results provide new insights into the uremic syndrome and have implications for uric acid and creatinine clearance during hemodialysis.
