Abstract

We show that virtual pion rescattering in a nuclear medium gives rise to an effective S-wave NN interaction Hamiltonian. The first few terms in the density expansion of the strength parameter are estimated and shown to be appreciable in nuclear matter. NUCLEAR REACTIONS Pion-nucleus interactions: S-wave interaction.
