Abstract
Beam elements are not sufficient to model power flow through thick jointed structures. High wavenumber modes, and coexisting flexural and axial waves are affected significantly by joints. An additional joint modeling is required. Hence, an approach is considered wherein the joint separate legs are connected with a set of springs in a suitable degrees of freedom. The spring constant is determined by static structural finite element analysis on the solid T-beam model.
