Abstract

The reduction kinetics of PbO in liquid PbO-SiO//2 slags that contained P//2O//5 was investigated in reducing atmospheres of H//2-N//2 gas mixtures in the temperature range 1123-1273K. The addition of varied amounts of P//2O//5 to the slag was found to have a retarding effect on the reduction rate, which was explained by a surface blockage mechanism. The experimental results were analysed on the basis of gas-phase mass transfer and dissociative adsorption of hydrogen.
