Abstract
When all other reconstructive options for a severely damaged elbow have failed, then an elbow fusion is a reasonable consideration in the young patient. It has the advantages of providing stability to the elbow and improving pain; however, it comes at a considerable loss of selected function of the extremity depending on the angle of fusion. The patients must be carefully chosen and must also be fully informed about the potential risks and benefits of this procedure.
