Abstract

In our electric field assisted assembly work, an AC electric field is used to align metallic nanowires to photolithographically defined electrodes. The metallic nanowires are fabricated by electroplating single or multiple metals in the pores of aluminum oxide or polymer membranes. After plating, the membrane is dissolved and the freed metallic nanowires are suspended in a fluid. This approach allows a large number (typically ∼109 -1010 in our labscale work) of nanowires to be quickly and easily fabricated.
