Abstract
Electricity can cause injury in a variety of ways. This chapter highlights the potential hazards that may be present at an electrical injury scene as well as the common misconceptions about lightning behavior. The basic concepts and pathophysiology behind electrical injuries, including lightning strikes, are discussed. Principles of management are reviewed, with an emphasis on treating the cardiac and respiratory systems as well as looking for burns and other traumatic injuries.
