Abstract

This paper presents a universal electrode approach which directly implements electrokinetic sample preparation on a SAM based electrochemical sensor for point-of-care diagnostics of urinary tract infections (UTI). Using uropathogenic E. coli clinical isolates as a model system, we demonstrate that on-chip electrokinetic sample preparation can accelerate the time-limiting incubation step for over 5-fold and enhance the amperometric signal of the strain specific 16S rRNA hybridization assay for one order of magnitude.
