Electromagnetic and strong contributions to dAu soft coherent inelastic diffraction at the BNL Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC)

Abstract

We estimate electromagnetic (ultraperipheral) and strong contributions to d+Au soft coherent inelastic diffraction at RHIC, d+Au →X+Au. We show that the electromagnetic contribution is the dominant one and that the corresponding cross section is sizable, σe.m.d+Au→X+Au=214 mb, which constitutes 10% of the total dAu inelastic cross section.
