Abstract

ZnO nanorods were synthesized by hydrothermal coarsening of quantum dots. The length of the nanorods and degree of asymmetry increased with higher Zn and LiOH concentrations. Particles were deposited by cathodic electrophoresis on transparent conductive oxide substrates from isopropanolic suspensions. As particle asymmetry increased, homogeneous films were deposited with preferred horizontal orientation. Commercially available ZnO nanopowders yielded inhomogeneous films and showed no preferred orientation with electrophoretic deposition.
