Abstract
Electrostriction in the solid solution system (1 – x) Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O3 xPb(Mg1/2W1/2)O3 with x ≦ 0.7 is measured by using a strain gauge technique. The electrostrictive Q coefficients are determined from the induced strain versus polarization curves in the paraelectric phase. The Q‐values of Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O3 increase rapidly in the region x ≦ 0.2 with additions of Pb(Mg1/2W1/2)O3 and approach constant values for x > 0.2. The results are compared with previous measurements on the Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O3PbTiO3 system.
