Abstract

In this text Amy Allen discusses which concept of "emancipation" would be compatible with a complex explanatory-diagnostic analysis of contemporary gender domination as it is intertwined and entangled with race, class, sexuality, and empire. Allen explores this question from the debates over subjection and modernity and afterwards, drawing on the work of Michel Foucault, defends a negativistic conception of emancipation as fruitful and productive way for a feminist critical theory.
