Emotion Socialization in Schools

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingChapter

Abstract

The way in which children perceive, understand, and express their emotions is shaped directly by the experiences they have at school. In turn, the emotional competencies that children develop and utilize in the school setting affect their learning, friendships, behavioral adjustment, and overall well-being. This entry reviews the definition of emotional competence, identifies school-based factors that affect emotional development, and describes intervention strategies that have proven effective at improving school supports for positive emotion socialization.
