Abstract

This paper presents the first demonstration of the empty-substrate integrated waveguide (eSIW) based beamformer system on glass package for G-band phased array applications. Featuring vertical aperture feeding, 200 GHz eSIW-based Butler matrix and slot antenna/array are designed and characterized. The Butler matrix presents 4.73 dB maximum amplitude imbalance at 200 GHz and realizes reliable phase difference through different ports. The slot antenna and array show over 15 GHz bandwidth and the beamwidths match the simulation. These results reveal the great potential of eSIW-based beamforming array for G-band phased array applications.
