Abstract

Prehospital testing of blood glucose is a very common procedure performed by EMS providers. Discovering and correcting a low blood glucose level can be life-saving. There are other types of point-of-care testing that are also being done in the prehospital setting. Lactate, troponin, and blood chemistries may also be tested in the field in certain situations by some providers. However, it is unclear what impact these tests have on patient outcomes.
