Abstract

The combined effects of energy and free volume are considered in the self-diffusion of trace amounts of solvents in amorphous polymers. A method for the determination of the parameters of the free-volume theory of transport is discussed. The ability of the combined energy and free-volume formulation to describe the temperature dependence of the self-diffusion process is evaluated using diffusion data both above and below the polymer glass transition temperature.
