Abstract

Before electrodynamic tether systems can be fully exploited, a complete understanding of their electrical response is needed. Understanding the plasma/conductor system requires knowledge of its steady-state and its transient response, as well as its transmission line characteristics. This paper examines work done to date on the transmission line properties of electrodynamic tethers. Also it shows the importance of knowing these properties to the proper interpretation of science and engineering data.
