Abstract

In this paper, we propose an enhanced frame rate up-conversion (FRUC) method for next generation video formats with fast motion. The proposed method can enhance the performance of FRUC by significantly reducing the motion estimation computational load. In the proposed algorithm, the search range for motion estimation at each block is adaptively determined using both the motion vector magnitude and the prediction error obtained from the previous frame. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm does not only significantly reduce the computational complexity but also provides better subjective image quality.
