Abstract
Inspection of the epicuticular floral chemistry of the cultivated sunflower afforded the new germacranolides 3-O-methylniveusin A and 1,10-O-dimethyl-3-dehydroargophyllin B diol, the eudesmanoic acid eudesma-1,3,11(13)-trien-12-oic acid, the diterpene 7-oxo-trachyloban-15α, 19-diol and the new 5-hydroxy-4,6,4′-trimethoxyaurone. The sesquiterpenes were strongly antifeedant to adult western corn rootworm, Diabrotica virgifera virgifera, in a squash disk consumption bioassay.
