An equalization technique that demonstrates rapid channel tracking and equalization through the use of periodic training data in the random data is presented. A decision-feedback equalizer is used. Simulation results obtained with the recursive least squares (RLS) and row-action-projection (RAP) algorithms are given. The RLS algorithm is an exact least-squares technique; the RAP algorithm is a modified least-squares technique that avoids stability problems found in the RLS algorithm. The RAP algorithm provided better tracking and stability performance.
